Missions
Locally
Through Westport's service organization, CitySync, we seek to serve and be a blessing to others in our community with "no strings attached." We do this in hopes of tangibly embodying the Gospel and making a lasting impact in our community. Our free service to others is a reflection of the authentic change that Jesus Christ has made in us, giving us hope and forgiveness.
In 2010, we will again partner with other Hillsboro churches for Hillsboro Community Care day, providing upkeep and repairs for Hillsboro schools, and The Outpost, a ministry of serving lunches to school-aged kids during the summer months.
Globally
In our global outreach, we've been led to focus our efforts on orphan care. There are 143 million orphans in our world, and that number has grabbed our attention. In particular, the 25 million orphans living in India have our hearts - so many alone, hungry, living with AIDS, rejected and left with no hope. Thankfully, there is hope. We believe that all hope is found in Jesus Christ. God has promised to be the Father to the fatherless and their Defender and Provider. He has chosen Westport Church to use our voice, our hands and our feet to demonstrate His everlasting love to the people and orphans of India.
The Santvana Children’s Home in Pune, India provides a loving home and education to children affected with HIV. Most of the children have been rescued from the brothels in the Red Light District. The children come to the home with physical and emotional scars but through the staff at Santvana and the people of Westport, the children are finding healing and hope in Christ.
Westport Church will continue to build our relationship with the Santvana Children’s Home in Pune, India. Our dream is that we would know these children by name, praying for them constantly and that they would become a part of our church family.
Though our long-term vision primarily involves India, we want to stay open to other needs and opportunities. The earthquake in Haiti brought one of those needs, and Westport is in a position to help. In June 2010, we will send two mission teams to Haiti to care for orphans, and help build new homes for those living in the wake of that tragedy.
